Learn to Knit Ankle Socks

Are you a seasonal knitter who puts your needles away once the weather gets warm? Or a knitter who has made a thousand hats and is ready to step outside your project comfort zone and expand your skills? Socks are the perfect light-weight project that you can knit ALL YEAR ROUND. Get ready to knit in the park, by the pool, on a walk, or basking in the Spring or Summer sunshine. Learn to knit ankle socks with Spun Right Round hand-dyed yarn to make it even more fun and enticing to knit year-round. Dyed right in Rochester, NY, you will love how fun this yarn is!

We will be continuing local by using Larch Peds, a pattern designed and written by our very own Finger Lakes knitwear designer, Laura Nelkin. This shortie ankle sock has a folded cuff that hugs the back of your ankle, just like a store bought sport sock. They are fantastic! Ankle socks are great for when you have to wear socks but don’t want to wear long socks 😂

Dates: Thursday 5/23 and Thursday 5/30 (this is a two-part class)

Time: 6:30-8:30p

Location: The Corner Brew Event Space at 2 W Main Street in Dryden, NY (parking is available along Main Street)

Teacher: Chris Cushman

Cost: $80

Max Number of Participants: 6

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Description: In this class, you'll learn about sock construction. With Chris as your guide, you’ll explore how to provisionally cast on, knit using the magic loop method (if you’d like), turn a heel with short rows, and seam a toe. Whether you’re a first-time sock knitter or a devotee eager to explore a new method, you’ll come away with a fun new set of knitting skills and some very fun socks! We will utilize some of Laura’s clever techniques with stitch saver cord, so you don’t have to pick up any stitches!

Prerequisites: knitting, purling, knitting in the round. Participants should be comfortable with basic knitting skills. Previous experience with small-diameter knitting is helpful but not necessary.

Techniques you will learn: Magic Loop, provisional cast on using stitch saver cord, creating a folded hem, German Short Rows, creating a gusset without picking up stitches, seaming a toe with Kitchener or Finchley Graft.
