AM Intro to Portuguese Style Knitting with Dory Peters
Teacher: Dory Peters
By day, Dory is a Ph.D. student in applied math at Cornell, who loves a good physics problem. But by night and by any free time Dory loves knitting, spinning, and crocheting. I am a devoted Portuguese knitter, (which did you know this is also known as Andean style knitting). This “thumb-flicking” technique is deeply rooted in traditions across South America, the Iberian Peninsula, and beyond. For Dory, this is deeply personal, as it is a way to reconnect with their indigenous Ecuadorian side of their family and the fiber traditions of the Andes. Though only a year into their knitting journey, they bring years of experience as a science and math teacher and a lifelong love of learning every stitch. Dory is beyond excited to share this piece of history, culture, and technique with fellow fiber enthusiasts.
