Intro to Tunisian Crochet (3 Sessions)

Come add a new craft to your repertoire in this introductory Tunisian crochet class! This class is for beginners who have never tried Tunisian before. It's helpful to have some basic crochet knowledge, but not necessary. We will cover everything you need to know to make your first Tunisian project. We will make the Upstate Scarf by Toni Lipsey over the course of 3 classes. There will be some homework between classes so that you can complete the scarf by the end of the third class. 

Dates: 

Class 1: Thursday, June 4th

Materials, chaining and pulling up stitches, Forward and return pass, Tunisian Simple Stitch

Class 2: Thursday, June 11th

Changing color (intarsia and stripes)

Class 3: Thursday, June 18th

Tunisian Purl Stitch, Binding off

Time: 4-6p

Location: Connected Stitches Yarn & Fiber Shop (10 W Main Street in Dryden, NY (parking is available along Main Street, accessible parking is located behind the building with a driveway off of North St) 

Teacher: Sarah Epplin

Sarah is a Latin teacher by day and an avid crocheter at most other waking moments. She learned to crochet in college for stress relief and quickly fell in love with the fiber arts. She frequently crochets sample garments and shawls for yarn dyers and has recently ventured into writing patterns. Sarah is excited to help other crafters expand their crochet skill sets.

Skill Level: Beginner

Prerequisites: none, basic crochet knowledge can be helpful

Techniques you will learn: Tunisian crochet (chaining and pulling up stitches, forward and return pass, changing colors and striping, Tunisian purl stitch, binding off)

Pattern: Upstate Scarf by Toni Lipsey

What You Need:

  • 6.5mm Tunisian crochet hook with at least a 5" cord
  • #4/Worsted yarn in 4 colors (approximately. 160yd of each color)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
