Has it been years since you have picked up knitting needles? Do you want to learn a new craft that is both relaxing and engaging? Take this workshop as a refresher class or to learn to knit for the first time! We carefully build on skills so you will come away with a chunky hat, and all the knitting basics you need to tackle your next projects.
This is also a great class if you have only knit flat scarves and want to learn to knit in the round on circular needles.

 

Dates: 

Session One

Thursdays 4/2 and 4/9 (this is a TWO PART class!) 12-2p

Session Two

Thursdays 5/21 and 5/28 (this is a TWO PART class!) 6-8p

Class 1: Learn casting on, knitting, and using circular needles to knit in the round
Class 2: Decreasing for the crown of your hat, switching to double pointed needles for small circumference knitting, finishing your hat

Teacher: Alyssa Welty

Alyssa Welty is a developing fiber artist who is enamored by hand crafts, sustainable making and building community through art. She is passionate about leaning into vulnerability through artistic expression, and embracing the imperfection in making. She finds allowing herself to create without critique to be a healing, infectious process. Alyssa spins, dyes, knits, and sometimes dabbles in weaving and embroidery.

This class is for adults ages 18+. For those younger than 18, check out our kids classes or contact us to schedule one. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. 

Description: In this class, you'll learn all the basics of knitting. This is a great class for an absolute beginner or someone who knows the knit stitch and wants a refresh and to build on their skills. At the end of these two classes you’ll have learned all the skills that you need to finish this cozy, chunky hat. 

Prerequisites: none.

Techniques you will learn: Long Tail Cast On, knitting, joining and working in the round, decreasing stitches, switching needles for small circumference knitting, weaving in ends to finish your project

  • Printed copy of the pattern

What You Need:
  • One Skein Malabrigo Rasta yarn (100% wool, super bulky, 150g/90 yards) or a similar weight bulky yarn  
  • US Size 15 circular 16” knitting needles
  • US Size 15 double pointed knitting needles
  • Darning needle 
  • scissors 
  • large stitch marker for knitting in the round
