Do you want to take your knitting skills to the next level? Have you admired double knit items from afar but don’t really know how to create them? Do you want to make a fun unique gift in time for the holidays? Take this workshop to learn the basics of double knitting and make your own set of double knit snowflake coasters. Great for yourself or as a gift! 

Dates: Fridays 11/20 and 12/4 (this is a TWO PART class!) 

Time: 10a-11a

Class 1: Learn how to work an invisible CO, how to read double knitting charts and how to knit 2 layers simultaneously.  

Class 2: Learn 2 different methods for grafting an invisible bind off for a polished look.

Skill Level: Skill Building intermediate 

Description: In this class, you'll learn the basic skills of double knitting and covers everything you need to know to create a set of double knit coasters. This is a great class for an enthusiastic beginner or intermediate knitter who is exploring double knitting for the first time. At the end of these two classes you’ll have learned all the skills that you need to make a double knit coaster and be able to finish the full set on your own in time for the holidays!  

Prerequisites: Know how to knit and purl. Italian CO and grafting experience a plus, but not necessary.  

Techniques you will learn: 2 color Alternating Invisible CO, knitting 2 layers simultaneously, joining both layers at the edges, how to read and follow double knitting charts, 2 options for an invisible BO, weaving in ends to finish your project.

What You Need: 

  • 1 ball each of 2 contrasting colors of #4 Medium weight yarn similar to 100% Superwash Wool 220 yds/100gr 
  • US Size 1 (2.25mm) knitting needles 
  • US Size 2 (2.75mm) knitting needles
