Granny Square Workshop

This workshop is for beginner crocheters who have learned the basic stitches and want to know how to make and use the ever-popular granny square. During this two-hour class, Sarah will show you how to make a basic granny square as well as some useful techniques for color-changing (without weaving in a million ends!) and joining squares together. Then, you'll be able to practice your new skills by making four granny squares and turning them into a drawstring pouch.

Location: Connected Stitches Yarn & Fiber Shop (10 W Main Street in Dryden, NY (parking is available along Main Street, accessible parking is located behind the building with a driveway off of North St) 

Teacher: Sarah Epplin

Sarah is a Latin teacher by day and an avid crocheter at most other waking moments. She learned to crochet in college for stress relief and quickly fell in love with the fiber arts. She frequently crochets sample garments and shawls for yarn dyers and has recently ventured into writing patterns. Sarah is excited to help other crafters expand their crochet skill sets.

Description: learn to make a granny square and change colors, create four granny squares and sew them into a pouch. 

Prerequisites: chain, single crochet, double crochet

Techniques you will learn: crochet around to create a granny square, switch colors, connecting granny squares

What You Need:

  • 5mm or 5.5mm crochet hook
  • #4/Worsted yarn in at least 2 different colors (approx. 100yd/50g total), cotton or acrylic is recommended 
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
