Learn to make your own yarn on a drop spindle! In this workshop you will learn more about the amazing resource of wool, different ways it is processed to be ready for spinning, and how to add twist to wool roving on a drop spindle to make your own yarn. You'll practice drafting and spinning on a wooden drop spindle with the help of fiber enthusiast, Alyssa!
In this 2-part series, you’ll begin by learning the basics of spinning yarn on a drop spindle and will leave with a mini skein of 2ply yarn ready to use for your project. We will cover twist, drafting, finishing, and planning a project with hand spun yarn. Come learn a new skill with great company!

August session:
Mondays 8/24 and 8/31 (this is a TWO PART class!) 6:00-7:30pm
September session:
Thursdays 9/10 and 9/17 (this is a TWO PART class!) 6:00-7:30pm
Location: Connected Stitches Yarn & Fiber Shop (10 W Main Street in Dryden, NY (parking is available along Main Street, accessible parking is located behind the building with a driveway off of North St)
Teacher: Alyssa Welty
Alyssa is a developing fiber artist who is enamored by hand crafts, sustainable making and building community through art. She is passionate about leaning into vulnerability through artistic expression, and embracing the imperfection in making. She finds allowing herself to create without critique to be a healing, infectious process. Alyssa spins, dyes, knits, and sometimes dabbles in weaving and embroidery.

Skill Level: Absolute Beginner.
Description: You will learn to spin wool fiber into yarn on a wooden drop spindle. With Alyssa as your guide, you will learn about wool and why adding twist creates yarn. You don't need a wheel to make yarn but can do it by hand on a spindle! You'll have class time to practice using the drop spindle and an opportunity to take supplies home to practice more.
Prerequisites: You don't need any prior experience or skills to take this workshop.
Techniques you will learn: prepping fiber (pre-drafting), using a drop spindle to make yarn

- Beginner wooden drop spindle (to use during class and purchased if you wish)
- Wool for spinning during and between classes
