Hoop Weaving Workshop

Have you ever wanted to learn to weave, but were too overwhelmed with learning? Or maybe you know how to weave, but want to create a simple project where you can fully express your creativity? In this Hoop Weaving Workshop, you will find an exciting new way to weave by using an embroidery hoop as a frame. This workshop will go over the basics of weaving and different techniques that can be incorporated into any project. At the end of the class, you will have your own unique piece of art to take home with you!

Date: Tuesday, February 11 6-8pm

OR Saturday, February 22 1-3pm

Location: Connected Stitches Yarn & Fiber Shop (10 W Main Street in Dryden, NY (parking is available along Main Street, accessible parking is behind the building with a driveway entrance on North St)

Teacher: Zoe Gras, a fiber artist based in Ithaca, New York, has been creating since before she could read. Fiber became an intrinsic part of Gras’s life when she became chronically ill in 2021 and found it challenging to complete day-to-day activities, leading her to discover her love for fiber arts. Gras aims to use fiber and naturally found objects to explore how women and queer people interact with society. Important features of her work include symbolic imagery and utilizing a wide variety of materials including fiber and naturally found materials. Her art is not defined by one fiber technique, rather, Gras works with various fiber crafts, including knitting, spinning, weaving, and lacemaking to turn her ideas into reality. Through these qualities, she hopes to allow a wider audience to explore and understand her work. Gras is a graduate of Ithaca College with a BA in Music and a minor in Deaf Studies.

Max Number of Participants: 10 in each class session

Skill Level: Absolute Beginner

Description: In this class, you'll learn the history and basics of weaving in a unique way. You will learn exactly how to weave and why the woven technique works while creating your own beautiful piece of art - a woven wall hanging!

Prerequisites: You don’t need any prior experience or skills to take this workshop.

Techniques you will learn: Plain weave, art weaving techniques

What's Included: Embroidery hoop, needle, yarn

What you will need: Nothing unless you want to bring some special yarn or material to weave with.
