Gathering for the Westknits MKAL 2024!
It's the 15th annual MKAL season! This year's shawl is called Go Go Dynamo. It's going to be a lively energetic design filled with bold geometric details. Go Go Dynamo is designed for two contrasting colors. Go bold with two solid shades or create a splashy painterly effect with a speckled contrast color combined with a solid main color.
Join us at Connected Stitches as we work through this year's mystery shawl throughout October.

Time: Our gathering is 6:30-8:30p ET
Location: Connected Stitches Yarn & Fiber Shop (10 W Main Street in Dryden, NY (parking is available along Main Street, accessible parking is located behind the building with a driveway off of North St)
Teacher: None. Chris and Kristen will be available and working on the shawl. You will be supported in community. Stephen West releases a series of videos for shawl techniques.

Size
The overall shape and dimensions are part of the mystery! Go Go Dynamo Shawl will be a large shawl, similar in size to Starflake or Mosaic Musings.
Yarn
Fingering weight
This year’s shawl features two contrasting colors of fingering weight yarn, 200g of the MC (Main Color) & 200g of the CC (Contrast Color).
YardageApproximately 1572yds / 1440m total
If your fingering weight yarn comes in 100g skeins, then you will need 2 skeins of each color. If yarn comes in 50g skeins/balls, you will need 4 skeins/balls of each color. You may have some leftovers, but it’s best to have the recommended amount of yarn listed above.
Needles
US 4 / 3.5mm in 40″ / 100cm length or size needed to obtain gauge
1 spare circular needle the same size or smaller for holding sts OR waste yarn.
Notions
2 stitch markers, tapestry needle
24 sts & 48 rows = 4″ / 10cm in garter stitch before blocking
Try to get close to the recommended stitch gauge to ensure you don't run out of yarn. A similar stitch gauge is more important than getting an exact row gauge.
Garter Stitch Swatch
If you would like to see how your colors interact, cast on 30 stitches and knit some colorful stripes, knitting on the right side and wrong side for garter stitch.
I recommend striping the colors by knitting 4 rows of each color, resulting in 2 garter ridges for each stripe like this…
Knit 4 rows with MC.
Knit 4 rows with CC.
Knit 4 rows with MC.
Knit 4 rows with CC.
Repeat those stripes to visualize your color relationship and check your stitch gauge.
